Description
Cardinal Tetras are immensely popular in the aquarium hobby due to its bright and vibrant blue and red colours. They are one of the best beginner fish species to get when starting out in the hobby, especially when trying out for a peaceful community tank. They are best kept in schools of 6-10 or more, which makes them quite the sight when in large groups.
Cardinal Tetras are a peaceful species of fish which makes them perfect to be mixed with other community fishes. Their natural habitat is a blackwater environment, which has fallen branches, leaf litter, and decaying plants. If a blackwater set-up not in your taste, a heavily planted clearwater aquariums will suffice.
They are an omnivorous species and can eat dried foods that are readily available on shelves of pet shops. They can also be given live foods like Daphnia, Moina, brine shrimps, bloodworms, and mosquito larvae.
FUN FACT: Another fish that looks just like the Cardinal Tetra is the Neon Tetra. To differentiate them, look at the red colouring on their body. The red colouration on the Neon Tetra only goes halfway under its body, whereas the red on Cardinal Tetra covers the entire bottom of its body. The Cardinal Tetra is also sometimes called the Red Neon Tetra.
