Description
The Ember Tetra is one of the smallest Tetra species in the aquarium hobby. They are great for their peaceful nature and their size allows them to be kept in nano set-ups. Native to South America, they inhabit slow waters of forested streams and tributaries with dense aquatic vegetation. When setting up a tank, a heavily planted set-up is ideal to provide plenty of hiding spaces. A blackwater set-up can also be made which would mimic their natural habitat.
They are very peaceful and can mix well in a peaceful community tank. As a schooling fish, they are best kept in a school of 8-10 or more to encourage more natural behaviours and feel more secure. Due to its size, larger and more active species are best avoided as it may disturb and create competition when feeding.
Ember Tetras are omnivorous and feeds on small insects and zooplankton in the wild. In the tank, they will accept dried foods of acceptable size. They are small fish with small mouths so micro pellets are recommended. Live and frozen foods like Artemia and Daphnia are also small enough to be fed.
