Description
The Opaline Gourami is a bright blue fish that originates from the Mekong River basin in southern China, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Myanmar and Malaysia. Their habitat includes weak flowing or stagnant, heavily-vegetated, lowland waters including ponds, ditches, swamps and marshes. A well-planted aquarium with some floating cover and open areas for swimming will provide them with comfort.
They are a semi-aggressive species and is not recommended for a peaceful community tank. Individuals can become very spiteful as they mature, while others remain peaceful. Males are territorial and will fight amongst themselves, becoming very aggressive when breeding. They are best kept with other robust fish such as barbs, plecos, loaches and other medium/large gouramis.
They are omnivores and will accept commercially available fish food in flakes or pellets. Occasionally feeding them live or frozen foods like Artemia, Daphnia, and bloodworms will benefit them too.
