Description
The Red Line Torpedo Barb, also known as the Denison Barb, originates from Southern India. Their habitat includes pristine streams and rivers that are littered with rocks, boulders. They often congregate in rocky pools with dense vegetation. A well-planted set-up will benefit and help them feel more comfortable.
They are generally peaceful making them an ideal resident of the well-researched community aquarium. It is a schooling species by nature and is best kept in a school of 6-10. As they are large and active swimming fish, they need plenty of space to swim around. They can be aggressive and care should be taken to keep them with species that are similar or larger in size. Keep them in a school and provide plenty of space to prevent aggression.
They are omnivorous and eats a variety of worms, insects, crustaceans, plant material, and other organic debris in the wild. They are not fussy eaters but will benefit more if given live or frozen foods like Daphnia, Artemia, and bloodworms. Live and frozen foods will enhance the colouration of their body. They generally stay in the middle of the tank so sinking foods are best.
FUN FACT: The Red Line Torpedo Barb is actually listed as an endangered species in the wild and most of them are farm-bred for the hobby.
