Description
The Boesemani Rainbowfish is native to an area of three lakes known as Ajamaru in Indonesia. Their habitat includes clear shallows of the lakes, where aquatic vegetation grows very densely. The lakes are characterised by hard, alkaline water. Like most Rainbowfish, they do better in a densely planted tank along with some open areas for swimming.
They are a peaceful species but may disturb other smaller or slow-moving fish with their rapid movements and relatively large size. Good tankmates would be other active fish like similarly-sized rainbowfish, Danios, Barbs, and Corydoras. They are schooling fish and is best kept in a school of 6-8 or more. This will encourage more natural behaviour and allows the males to display brighter colour as they try to attract the female’s attention.
They are omnivorous and will accept commercially available fish food in the form of flakes or pellets. Live and frozen food can also be given like Artemia, Daphnia, and bloodworms and will help them produce more vibrant colours.
