Description
The Ryukin Goldfish is derived from the Fantail Goldfish. Their bodies are much rounder and egg-shaped compared to the Fantail. They also sport a hump that starts from their neck region, making their head look more pointed.
Ryukins are semi-aggressive and is best kept with their own kind. As for any Goldfish, they have a very large bioload because of their simple digestion so adequate filtration is needed.
They are not very picky eaters and can be fed with commercially available flakes or pellet foods for Goldfish. Live food is also a good source of protein in the form of bloodworms, Daphnia, and Artemia.
Goldfish are also able to eat vegetables, fruits, and plants like deshelled cooked peas, uncooked lettuce, apples, duckweed, etc. Just be sure to cut them up into small pieces that can fit into their mouth.
FUN FACT: Goldfish don’t have a stomach and digests food as fast as they eat. Hence, a lot of waste is produced quickly. This is why a large filtration system is needed to compensate for this large bioload.
Many species of Goldfish in the aquarium hobby are not found in the wild but are selectively bred or genetically modified to look interesting like the Pearlscale and Bubble Eye.
