Description
The Golden Swordtail is a variant of Swordtail that boasts shades of orange that makes it look golden.
Swordfishes are a very popular fish in the aquarium hobby and is also a staple to have in every fish shop. Their popularity stems from their ease of care, peaceful nature, and most importantly their unique fins. Their name comes from the males which have a long protruding part on their tail fins, giving them a ‘swordtail’.
They are a peaceful community fish and can be housed in a well-planted aquarium. Their peaceful nature allows it to be mixed with other peaceful community fish. They prefer much more alkalic and harder water so be sure that its tank mates can tolerate the same water parameters too. They are livebearer fish and will breed rapidly.
Swordtails accept a wide variety of foods. In the wild, they eat a lot of algae and vegetation so occasionally giving them blanched vegetables and algae infused foods will benefit them.
NOTE: When mixing male and female Swordfish, the females should be more than the males to prevent harassment when finding a mate.
