Description
The Longfin Barb originates from the streams and rivers of India. Their habitat includes clean, well-oxygenated flowing water and substrates of gravel, pebbles, rocks, and boulders. The best set-up is a set-up resembling a flowing stream or river with a substrate of variably sized, water-worn rocks, sand, fine gravel and perhaps some small boulders. Driftwoods can also be added for extra furnishing.
They are a large and active barb species and can be kept in a community aquarium with other large peaceful tank mates. They will not harm or harass any fish that are too big to eat. They are schooling fish and is recommended to be kept in a school of 8 or more. Having too little in a school will result in them being insecure and start to harass other fish.
They are omnivorous and will feed on meaty foods and also plants. They will accept commercially available fish food but are best given live and frozen foods like Artemia, Daphnia, and bloodworms to help them show their true colours.
