Description
The Neon Dwarf Gourami is a small and peaceful fish that are popular in the aquarium hobby. They sport striking blue and red patterns on their body and stay relatively small compared to other gourami species. Their habitat includes heavily vegetated, sluggish waters including ponds, ditches, and flooded fields. They do well in a planted aquarium set-up with a lot of shaded areas from floating plants or driftwood. A blackwater setup is also ideal as it creates a natural environment for them.
They are a peaceful, slow-moving species and should avoid being mixed with larger or vigorous swimmers as Honey Gouramis will easily be intimidated or outcompeted for food. They are not schooling fish but can do well in a group of 4-6. Being in a group will inhabit interesting behaviours as they interact and compete with each other. Be sure to provide enough space for them to avoid injuries and harassments.
They are omnivorous and will accept commercially available fish foods but will do best on live foods such as Artemia, Daphnia, or bloodworms for better colouration.
