Description
The Pearl Gourami is one of the most popular species of gourami in the hobby for their beautiful collection of white spots across their body and large delicate fins. They are native to Thailand, Malaysia and the islands of Borneo and Sumatra. Their habitat includes lowland swamps, rivers and lakes with a lot of vegetation. A planted aquarium set-up with some floating vegetation and open areas for swimming would be best for them. A blackwater set-up will also work for them and will help them produce better colours.
They are one of the most peaceful gouramis to have and can be mixed with other peaceful community fish. Male Pearl Gouramis are territorial towards each other so keeping one male among more females is recommended.
They are omnivorous and unfussy eaters. They will accept commercially accepted fish foods along with live or frozen foods such as Artemia, Daphnia, and bloodworms.
FUN FACT: Gouramis are actually related to Bettas (Siamese Fighting Fish).
