Description
The Congo Tetra is a colourful fish that originates from the Congo River in Africa. They are popular for their beautiful colours and their extended central tail area (for males). An aquarium set-up with driftwood and plenty of vegetation will be sufficient. Make sure there is plenty of swimming space as they are active swimmers.
They are peaceful but may scare other shy species because of their active swimming and large adult size. They are schooling fish and is best kept in schools of 6-10 or more. Avoid keeping them with fin-nipping fish as their extended fins will be bitten off. Tankmates can include other tetras, corydoras, and rainbowfish.
They are omnivorous and feeds on small insects, crustaceans, worms, and algae in the wild. They are not fussy and will accept most commercially available fish foods. Frozen or live foods like Artemia, Daphnia, and bloodworms are best given to enhance their colouration in the aquarium.
