Description
The Heart-Shaped Blood Parrot is a variant of the Blood Parrot Cichlid that has no tails due to selective breeding.
The Blood Parrot Cichlid is a hybrid fish species in the aquarium hobby. The cross-breeding of two different cichlid species has given this fish an unusual look. Its beak-like head and large eyes make this fish popular among enthusiasts. Blood Parrot Cichlids don’t have a place of origin as they were artificially created in Taiwan around 1986. When setting up a tank, Blood Parrots prefer plenty of hiding spaces in the form of driftwoods and rocks and large open spaces for swimming. When choosing a substrate, choose the ones that are not too rough as these fish will dig.
Blood Parrots are typically not a community fish but can mix with other Blood Parrots or similar community fish. They should not be kept with larger aggressive fish as they are not built to compete for food. Blood parrots will eat a variety of foods including flake, live, frozen, and freeze-dried foods. Live or frozen foods such as bloodworms can be fed to maintain their vibrant colours.
