Description
The Borneo Sucker closely resembles the Hillstream Loach in terms of looks but has different patterns and lives in different environments. They are native to the fast-flowing rivers of Borneo, which have a habitat of oxygen-rich waters and large boulders covered in algae and biofilm. When setting up a tank, a river set-up is ideal as they prefer waters that are clean and well-oxygenated. Rocks are a primary decoration but driftwood can also be used (avoid ones that can leach tannins, causing the water to turn dark.) Borneo Suckers rely on light to grow biofilm and algae to graze on.
Borneo Suckers mix well in a community aquarium with other large and active community species. Provide an adequate amount of space as they are territorial to decrease aggression. They can jump so do have a tight-fitting or heavy lid on the aquarium. Borneo Suckers will cling onto rocks, plants, and also the aquarium wall as they graze algae and biofilm.
They are omnivorous but generally consumes algae and biofilm that grows in the tank. This is why it is not a suitable fish for newer tanks as they are not mature enough to grow out algae and biofilm for them to graze on. Sinking foods like algae wafers are good supplement foods for them.
