Description
The Celebes Rainbowfish originates from the island of Sulawesi (formerly known as Celebes), Indonesia. Their habitat includes clear flowing streams and tidal mouth of large rivers. A heavily planted tank is best suited for this fish for it to be comfortable and to show off its true colours. High water quality is essential to the well-being of this species, so weekly partial water changes are recommended.
They are a peaceful species and mixes well with other community fish. Good tankmates include other species that prefer alkalic and hard water, such as similarly-sized rainbowfish, livebearers and freshwater gobies. Like other rainbowfish, they are very skittish and is best kept in a shoal of 6-8. They are not a schooling species but will stay in a group for security. The males will display their best colours when mixed with females. It is best to provide more females to male to avoid harassment from males.
They are easily fed and will accept foods in flakes and pellets. A varied diet with some live and frozen foods like Artemia, Daphnia, and bloodworms will benefit them and help them produce more vibrant colours.
