Description
The Red Zebra Danio is the Genetically Modified version of the Zebra Danio and is not found in the wild. It sports a bright fluorescent orange/red on its body making it stand out from other fishes due to special breeding. They are active swimmers in the aquarium, which gives some extra motion in the aquarium to those who like active fish. It can be mixed in together with a community planted tank.
They are regarded as very hardy fish as they can withstand and tolerate many beginner aquarist mistakes. They are also sometimes used to jump-start an aquarium’s Nitrogen Cycle as they can tolerate the lack of beneficial bacteria in a new setup. They are schooling fish and is best kept at a school of 6-10 or more.
They are an omnivorous species and eat readily available dried fish food from pet stores. Live and frozen foods can also be given in the form of Artemia, Daphnia, and bloodworms. They are not very fussy eaters.
NOTE: Danios are known to jump out of aquariums so be sure to have a lid on your tank. Danios are also known to sometimes nip fins of long-finned fish like Bettas, Guppies, and Angelfish, so be wary when mixing them together.
