Description
Rosy Barbs are an active fish with a peaceful temperament and bright colours, making it one of the most popular and readily available fish for aquarium hobbyists. They are native to Pakistan throughout India, Nepal, and Bangladesh. Their habitat includes flowing hill streams and tributaries of rivers to stiller waters such as lakes, ponds, and swamps. A planted aquarium set-up with some floating vegetation and open areas for swimming would be best for them.
They are generally peaceful and can be mixed in a well-researched peaceful community aquarium. They are schooling fish and should be kept in a school of 8-10. Maintaining it in decent numbers will not only make the fish less nervous but will result in a more effective, natural-looking display, plus males will display their best colours as they compete with one other for female attention.
They are omnivorous and feeds on worms, insects and other small invertebrates, as well as plant matter in the wild. They will accept commercially accepted fish foods but will do best with live or frozen foods such as Artemia, Daphnia, and bloodworms for better colouration.
