Description
The Rummy Nose Tetra is a popular fish in the aquarium hobby for its bright red face. It originates from the blackwater rivers and lakes of Brazil. Their habitat consists of dead branches and leaf litter, creating tea-coloured coloured water. Recreating their habitat features in your aquarium can help boost their colours as the acidity of the water from the woods and leaves help to bring out the reds in their face.
They are peaceful schooling fish that can be kept with many community fishes. They are best kept in groups of 6-10 or more to ensure security and show natural behaviours.
Rummy Nose Tetras are omnivorous and will accept anything that is offered to them. Commercially available dried fish foods can be given to them with some mixture of live or frozen foods such as Daphnia, Artemia, and bloodworms to enhance colouration.
NOTE: Rummy Nose Tetras will slowly lose their red colouration if the water is alkalic. Colouration will also fade when they are stressed, so be sure to have peaceful tank mates.
