Description
The Panda Garra is native to Myanmar’s Rakhine River. They live in shallow parts of the river and are found in small pools with slow-moving water. Their habitat consists of clear water with substrates of stones. gravel, and rocks. an aquarium set-up that resembles a flowing river should mimic its habitat and provide comfort for this fish. Decorations of gravel, sand, rocks, and some wood should be used.
This fish needs stable water conditions and grazes on biofilm that grows upon the surfaces of the aquarium. They can jump out of the water and is required to have a lid on the aquarium. They are a relatively peaceful species when mixed with other large community fish. When kept alone, they can be aggressive so it is recommended to keep at least 3-4 to help quell this behaviour.
Panda Garras will graze on algae that grow in the aquarium but is not primarily herbivorous. They can also be given live or frozen foods like bloodworms, Artemia, and chopped prawns. Fresh fruit and vegetable such as cucumbers or blanched spinach can also be given occasionally. Commercial fish foods such as sinking algae wafers can also be given.
